- The Beacon Drive-in
The L.D. Barksdale Sickle Cell Foundation, along with several community partners and sponsors, will hold its first Cruise-In on March 30, to raise much-needed funding for sickle cell patients and awareness. We will have cars and motorcycles from all over the Southeast. Groups will participate from Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbia, and Sumter.
This event is being held in remembrance of the late Captain Richard Andrews, Retired Air Force veteran, and Sumter High School JROTC instructor. Captain Andrews shared his story about having sickle cell trait, and how it prevented him from his dreams of becoming an Air Force pilot. He was belove car enthusiast and a pillar in the community.
There will be no entry fee. Bring your best cars and come check out the cool vehicles, while taking the opportunity to meet and greet some great people, all while appreciating our love for cars. We will have a DJ, live music, games, and prizes. For more information on how to participate, please contact Mr. Joe McElrath, at (864) 590-7636.
